I’d give this book to any fan of original vampire lore. A German branch of the Order of Malta, which was eradicated after the Protestant Revolt, was restored by Fredrick Wilhelm IV of Prussia in 1852 under the name of the Evangelical Johannites. I finished this book because is was so appealingly bizarre. I picked this book up because it looked dark and interesting. However, Alucard is not like other vampires, and Hellsing is a stronghold that is not to be trifled with. Recently a new threat has begun to rise against Hellsing, led by a man whose sole desire is war and carnage, and he has also rallied the supernatural power of vampires to his side. The actual conditions for admission to the order are: nobility of sixteen quarterings, the Catholic Faith. Integra is supported by strong troupes, but mostly by her protectively deadly butler, Walter, and her trump card, a vampire named Alucard who has sworn himself under her allegiance. It is now (1910) held by Galeazzo von Thun Hohenstein. The spiritual home of the Order is St George's Chapel, Windsor. Every knight is required to display a banner of his arms in the Chapel, together with a helmet, crest and sword and an enamelled stallplate. Nearly 700 years later, the Order is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain. The Knights, now both male and female, used to be limited to aristocracy, but today they are chosen from a variety of backgrounds, in recognition for their public service In medieval times, King Edward III was so inspired by tales of King Arthur and the chivalry of the Knights of the Round Table that he set up his own group of honourable knights, called the Order of the Garter. ![]()
